Grow Guide
How to use Berkana.
It takes five minutes to learn and works the same way every grow.
What you need
Before you start
Precision scale
Accurate to 0.1g. Under 15 euros online. The only tool you truly need.
Clean water
Tap water works. Know your starting EC if possible. Default: 0.30 EC.
Growing medium
Soil, coco, rock wool, or hydroponics. Berkana works in all of them.
No pH meter required for most setups. Berkana buffers naturally between 5.5 and 7.5. No feeding chart. No products to switch at bloom.
The method
Three steps. Every grow.
01
Measure
Weigh 2-5g per litre on your precision scale. Lower for seedlings, higher at peak bloom.
02
Mix
Add to water. Stir five minutes until dissolved. Hydroponics: stir twice with a 45-minute pause.
03
Grow
Feed. Same formula, every stage. No switch at bloom. pH buffers 5.5-7.5 automatically.
How much to use
The dose
| Growth Stage | Soil | Coco / Hydro |
|---|---|---|
| Growing | 0.6 – 1.2 EC | 0.8 – 1.2 EC |
| Start of flower | 1.2 – 1.5 EC | 1.2 – 1.6 EC |
| Mid flower | 1.5 – 1.8 EC | 1.6 – 2.0 EC |
| Mid / end flower | 1.8 – 2.2 EC | 2.0 – 2.4 EC |
| Flush | 0.0 – 0.4 EC | 0.0 – 0.4 EC |
Dosages based on source water with starting EC of 0.3. Adjust if your source water EC is significantly higher or lower.
pH
pH buffering
Berkana is pH-buffered. In most setups you will not need to adjust pH manually.
6.0 – 7.0
Ideal range for soil
5.5 – 6.5
Ideal range for hydro and coco
If your pH drifts outside these ranges consistently, check your source water first. Hard water with high bicarbonate content is the most common cause.
Your setup
Medium-specific notes
Soil
Works in all soil types. Water until slight runoff. Allow partial drying between feeds.
Coco
Feed every watering. Coco does not hold nutrients like soil. Consistent feeding matters.
Rock wool
Soak new slabs in pH-adjusted water first. Feed every watering. Inert medium — readings are accurate.
Hydroponics
Stir twice, 45-minute pause. Change reservoir every 7-10 days. Add Uruz if calcium deficiency appears.
What to watch
Reading your plant
Healthy plants tell you everything. Here are the signals that matter.
Deep green leaves, strong stems, consistent growth.
This is what you want. Keep doing what you are doing.
Pale or yellowing new growth at the tips.
EC likely too low. Increase dose slightly and monitor over 48 hours.
Leaf tips burning or curling under.
EC likely too high. Flush with plain water at low EC and return to a lower dose.
Yellowing between veins, green veins still visible.
Typically a pH issue, not a nutrient issue. Check feed pH and adjust.
Growth slowed but plant looks healthy.
Check EC. If in range, check environment — temperature, humidity, and airflow affect uptake more than most growers expect.
When to add more
Most growers run Berkana alone. That is the point.
Add Jera if
You are running an organic grow without Berkana, or you want a dedicated flush product in the final week. Dose: 50g per 1,000 litres.
Add Uruz if
You are running hydroponics at high intensity and seeing calcium deficiency despite correct Berkana dosage.
If you are growing in soil or coco with Berkana at the correct EC, you do not need either product. We will always be the first to tell you that.
